MegaPenguin was a silly idea, that got a bit out of control.
At E3 in 2018, the Media Molecule team were showing off the unique creative power of their new game Dreams. So they played a game of Consequences with visitors to the PlayStation booth, then used the answers to create a game in Dreams. That game was Mega Penguin.
A few years later, the Dreams community team revived the idea as MegaPenguin: Rehatched - a collaborative game design project that Dreams players could contribute to by creating their own playable levels, that were collated into a sprawling multi-level saga.
The kick-off point for the story was the MegaPenguin was lost in space, in search of his people. Inspired by the space setting, I created and pitched a teaser trailer inspired by sci-fi horror films like Alien and Event Horizon.
In the trailer, we are re-introduced to the new and improved MegaPenguin, who discovers the old E3 game via a long forgotten deep-space distress signal...
